Snow Much Fun - Ruidoso, New Mexico Ski Trip

Isabel's 1st time to see snow
For Spring Break 2010, we decided to take a big family ski vacation to Ruidoso, New Mexico.  The trip was a 12 hour drive from Corpus Christi - thanks to our new portable DVD player Isabel travelled like a pro. We stayed in a very nice condo called Aspen Run located right off the main road and we skied at Ski Apache.

Ski Apahce is located on Sierra Blanca Peak overlooking the mountain community of Ruidoso.  Sierra Blanca Peak has an elevation of 12,000 feet - its about a 30 minute drive up the mountain to the ski resort.  A little history- the moutain has been in operation since 1961 by the Mescalero Apache Tribe.

Day 1 of Skiing -We woke up to a mild snow storm - reports on the radio stated that NO ONE was allowed up the moutain without snow chains on their car due to possible rollovers.  That was just great! We drove around most of the morning looking for chains and found some to rent for the day at a Wood Carving Shop.  The day on the mountain was a little rough for everyone esp. Isabel because it was so cold and snowing quiet a bit. Everybody had a great time despite falling and knocking out a few people on the ski lifts.
She did so good!

Day 2 - What a beautiful day! The sun was out and the snow was like powder-it was great! Isabel was a little snow bunny up and down the bunny trails most of the morning. I think she ate about a bucketful of snow despite everyone telling her NO!-she always found some way to sneak it and eat it! The kids stayed out on the trails all day and I even challenged Lil David to a race down-of course he won because he just goes staight down so fast without worrying about falling.  Everyone left the mountain that day super sunburned and exhausted!

The Last Day - We visited Smokey Bear Historical Park and did the fittness trail.  The kids had a great time throwing snow and challenging each other.
